After last year in Miami — 2024 — there was a lot sitting heavy with me. Like every season, it tested my mind, body, and spirit. But that one, in particular, cut deeper. The way it ended didn’t sit right with me. After 12 years in the NFL, All-Pro honors, and everything I’d poured into this game, it felt unfinished.

Jordan Poyer shares a powerful and personal account of his journey deep into the Amazon rainforest, where he was hosted by the Yawanawá people. His first trip was a solo initiation into their sacred traditions—ceremonies, plant medicines, and a way of life deeply connected to nature. On his second trip, he returned with others, navigating a long and demanding journey to the heart of the forest. During the retreat, Jordan slept in hammocks under the stars, honored the culture’s rituals (like face painting for spiritual protection), and participated in profound healing ceremonies. One helped him release childhood pain related to his absent father; another connected him with spiritual guides and universal oneness. The post is filled with deep respect for the Yawanawá people and their way of life—highlighting their love, wisdom, and connection to the earth. Jordan closes by affirming that this experience has changed him forever—and that he plans to return.
